Ballistic target backing

Shooting ranges throughout the world have selected Linatex as a permanent fixture to safeguard shooters against dangerous ricochet’s in shooting ranges. Linatex is a natural rubber that exhibits outstanding resilience, strength and resistance to both cutting and tearing. It is these characteristics that permit Linatex to self seal after the projectile has passed through.

Features

  • Linatex premium natural rubber curtains provide a safe shooting environment
  • Excellent self-sealing properties
  • Cost effective control of ricochet, noise and airborne lead dust
  • As installed at Bisley (UK) , the home of competition shooting
  • Approved by the British Ministry of Defence
  • Another distinct feature is the ability of the rubber sheeting to deaden noise from shots and strikes against the rear armour plating. At the same time, the quantity of hazardous lead dust is reduced.  The lead dust and fumes are better contained behind the rubber where they can be extracted and do not reach the shooters at the firing platforms
  • Independent tests have shown Linatex to give the longest life whichever ammunition is used

Benefits

White target backing for slide projection - This has been developed to aid target visibility for camera ranges and scenic shoots. It is ideal where films or slides form part of the shooting drill.White Linatex is also used in traditional shooting ranges. The reflective surface improves the light around the target area. Another advantage that has been noted by white Linatex users is the ease of shot spotting when using dark targets.

Which ammunition? - The useful life of the target backing depends on the type of weapon and ammunition used, e.g. 22 calibre 38 wad cutter, 44 magnum 6.5mm, 303 cal., 357 magnum 45 auto and 9mm.Trials show that 22 cal. lasts several thousand rounds, while the 38 wad cutter goes several hundred rounds before any lapping is needed.

Hollow-point bullets - The drawback with the new projectile is that the flat tip punches a lasting hole in the target backing. This problem can be solved by Suspending an extra-thin curtain in front of the main one. The flat tip of the bullet is thus filled with rubber from the curtain, so that the rear curtain retains the same characteristics and service as previously.

Fixing - Curtains can be supplied complete with nylon tabs and brass eyelets, or can be secured by clamping the Linatex between wooden battens.

The illustration above shows the design of a safe, efficient shooting range incorporating Linatex.

The Linatex target backing hangs freely, it is secured only at the top, which is necessary to maximise its effectiveness. Linatex is suspended in panels which can easily be switched and moved so as to spread the load.

This prolongs the life of the curtain, making it easier to clean and facilitating the extraction of lead fumes. Linatex can be supplied in various curtains and sizes.

WARNING - CAUTION!
Do not use low-power ammunition or air rifles. Only ammunition approved for use at your particular shooting range. | The target backing must hang freely - do not fix to the floor. | Even though the target backing reduces ricocheting, safety regulations must be strictly observed.
