Weir Minerals Scoops Copper-Concentrate Contract
£3.7M CONTRACT WITH OUTOTEC
Weir Minerals has secured a £3.7 million order
to supply pumps, valves, cyclone clusters and slurry hoses for one
of Russia’s biggest copper concentrate production plants.
The company was selected by Outotec, a Finnish
contractor which is delivering the new copper concentrator facility
in Cheylabinsk for ZAO Miheevsky – a subsidiary of the Russian
Copper Company (RCC).
Scheduled to begin production in early 2014,
the scheme will process 18 million tons of copper ore per year from
an open-pit ore mine. The concentrate produced at the plant will go
on to be smelted and refined into pure copper.
Weir Minerals is supplying 60 pumps, 95 valves
and six cyclone clusters – large units used to separate particles
from slurry.
The contract is the biggest Weir Minerals has
secured with a Finnish client this year.
Matti Riihimäki, Field Sales Manager at Weir
Minerals said: “We have worked with Outotec for many years,
supplying equipment both for projects in Finland and those it
delivers for customers in other territories.
“Our selection for this major project is
testament to the quality and customer service we have consistently
delivered over that time.
“In big project like this, supplying the
equipment is one task but other equally important is to fulfil with
all quality and documentation requirements in timely manner.”
To guarantee excellent customer service across
the region, Weir Minerals opened its first servicing base in
Finland in March this year.
Weir Minerals Europe delivers end-to-end
solutions for all mining, slurry transportation, milling,
processing and waste management processes across a range of
industries and in more than 30 different territories.
